Salford Magnetic Resonance is an independent consulting & design company specialising in industrial applications of low resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (LR-NMR). We have been trading since 1995 and are based in the UK at Abingdon in Oxfordshire.

The prime aim of this website is to introduce surfers to Salford Magnetic Resonance and the services we offer. Salford Magnetic Resonance is a private company and does not receive any government or charitable funding. However, in addition, it is hoped that the site will promote the use of LR-NMR for industrial applications. The site as a whole &, in particular the tutorial sections, are designed to be of use to those who currently use, or have an interest in using, LR-NMR in an industrial environment.

NMR is a widely used technique, particularily in spectroscopic analysis and in medical imaging. However, LR-NMR is in many ways a poor relation of these two major application areas & this is reflected in the lack of text books and information that is generally available on the subject. Much of the information that is available on NMR is designed for those training to be NMR specialists and is often over complicated for those wishing to understand LR-NMR applications. In addition, important subjects for industrial users such as instrument precision, accuracy & calibration methods are neglected in general text books and websites.

Many industrial users of LR-NMR are general laboratory managers and technicians rather than NMR specialists, and use LR-NMR for a specific application alongside many other spectroscopic & traditional chemical techniques. These users do not have the time to study NMR in depth and usually require some clear and reasonably simple answers to (amongst others) the following questions:

• What does the instrument measure ?

• How do these measurements relate to the traditional reference methods we use ?



• What is the accuracy & precision of the instrument and what can affect these parameters ?



• What is the best way to calibrate the instrument ?



• What else can I use the instrument for ?
